Four tsessebe walking into the open plains of Mokala, caught in the act of looking back. The closest turns fully, eye sharp, lashes long, the fine detail of neck and face holding every gram of early morning light. The three behind dissolve into shadow and soft focus, faces half-lit, present but receding.

They were leaving. For a moment, they weren’t.

On acrylic, the contrast deepens. Face-mounted on 2mm crystal-gloss acrylic, the photograph sits within the surface, the sharp eye of the nearest animal pulling forward while the forms behind fall gently away.
