Bespoke Photo Expeditions

This is not a photography tour

I work with a small number of photographers and collectors each year who want to go beyond competent wildlife imagery, toward creating photographs that function as lasting works of art.

These are private, tailor-made photographic experiences, shaped around light, subject, season, and intent. The focus is not volume, speed, or sightings, but learning how to see, anticipate, and translate the wild into a finished, considered image.

The Art of Photography, Not the Mechanics

Excellent naturalists guide most photo safaris, but photography is secondary. The result is often competent, repeatable imagery that is technically sound and visually familiar.

My approach is different.

The emphasis is on:

  • Seeing structure, rhythm, and gesture

  • Understanding light as a narrative tool

  • Anticipation, patience, restraint

  • Creating images that stand alone, without explanation

The goal is not social media output or memory cards full of files. The goal is one photograph you would be proud to live with on your wall.

What We Work On Together

Each experience is shaped around the individual, but commonly includes:

  • Developing an artist’s eye in the field

  • Reading animal behaviour for decisive moments

  • Working with difficult light rather than avoiding it

  • Composing for fine art prints, not screens

  • Editing with intention, clarity, and restraint

  • Understanding why some images endure, and others do not

This is mentorship in the field, grounded in real situations, real conditions, and honest critique.

A Considered Invitation

These experiences are best suited to:

  • Serious photographers seeking artistic growth

  • Collectors who want to engage deeply with the photographic process

  • Individuals who value depth over volume

  • Those willing to slow down, observe, and refine

It is not designed for beginners, large groups, or checklist-driven safaris.

How It Works

Every experience is bespoke.

  • Locations are selected based on subject, season, and light

  • Timing is flexible, not fixed-date driven

  • Experiences are private or very small by design

  • All logistics and bookings are handled through licensed safari partners in South Africa or abroad

  • My role is purely photographic mentorship and artistic guidance

Because each journey is tailored, there are no standard itineraries or prices listed.

What You Leave With

Some participants leave with a single photograph that changes how they see their work.

Others leave with a deeper understanding of their own voice as a photographer.

The most meaningful outcome is not an image, but a shift in perception — the ability to recognise moments worth waiting for, and the confidence to create work that lasts.
