Into the Wild — Norman | The Story
A black-maned lion of the Kalahari.
Long before he arrived at Tswalu, Norman had already earned his place among Africa's great lions. Alongside his cousin Zwaai, he survived battles for territory, rival coalitions, and the constant challenges of life in the wild.
When the two lions were relocated to Tswalu, many expected old rivalries to continue. Instead, something remarkable happened. Former enemies became allies, forming one of the most formidable lion coalitions in the reserve.
This portrait is Norman as I remember him, powerful, watchful, and utterly at home in the vast Kalahari landscape.
A reminder that true strength is not always found in conflict. Sometimes it is found in endurance.

A King’s Approach
Watch as the legendary Norman and his brother emerge from the Addo thicket. In these moments of raw, moving power, the tension built with every step. It was from this charged atmosphere that the iconic portrait was born—a single, silent moment of connection after the long wait.
