In Memory of Craig, 1972–2026
Craig, the legendary Super Tusker of Amboseli National Park, passed away peacefully on January 3rd 2026, at the age of 54. One of the last remaining elephants carrying tusks weighing over 45 kilograms each, his immense ground-sweeping ivory and calm, dignified presence made him one of the most recognised elephants in Africa.
More than a spectacle of scale, Craig became a living symbol of what sustained conservation can achieve. His long life was made possible through decades of protection by the Kenya Wildlife Service, supported by conservation partners and local communities. Continuous monitoring, anti-poaching efforts, habitat preservation, and community stewardship allowed him to roam freely and safely into old age.
