While driving the powdery white roads along the edge of Etosha Pan, Namibia, I spotted a black rhino mother and her youngster emerging from the bush. They moved steadily toward a nearby waterhole, cutting through the dusty light of the late afternoon.
To my amazement, they walked straight toward my vehicle. The mother paused just long enough for me to capture this close, intimate portrait — a moment of quiet connection. Her head turned slightly, her eye locked with mine, revealing her strength and vulnerability.
