Into the Wild — Keitloa | The Story

Some encounters arrive when you are looking for something else.

Late one afternoon in Etosha, I had been watching a group of old bull elephants moving slowly across the vast, empty pan. The light was falling beautifully across the landscape, and I was absorbed in their quiet procession.

Then, almost unnoticed, something moved among the reeds.

A black rhino.

He stood alone, covered in the dry mud of Etosha, the warm light catching the scars and folds of his ancient skin. Against the delicate reeds and the enormous emptiness of the pan, he seemed almost to belong to another age.

For a few moments, I watched without moving.

The elephants continued their journey in the distance, while this solitary giant remained completely still.

There was no drama. No charge. No confrontation.

Just presence.

He seemed to carry the weight of the landscape with him, scarred by life but utterly unyielding. I had gone looking for elephants, yet somehow this was the encounter that stayed with me.

I called him Keitloa.

An old soul standing quietly beneath the African sky.

Some photographs are found by searching.

Others simply appear, and ask you to stop.

Keitloa was one of those moments.

Collector Stories

Reflections from collectors who have welcomed Peter Delaney's artwork into their homes around the world.

"

After some delay, I finally had 'Bonds of Love' framed and placed on my bedroom wall, a gift from my husband for our 50th wedding anniversary. He passed away not long after, and two years on, this photograph continues to comfort me. It is the first thing I see every morning, and it gladdens my heart.

This is not a photograph hanging on a wall. It is a window into something vast and unhurried.

Queen of the Mara has occupied a central place in our living room since 2020. It helped us feel connected to the world at a time when we... weren't.
