The Story

I can still taste the sand in the air. A dry berg wind had turned the sky a muted grey, and Etosha Pan stretched before me, cracked and shimmering in the heat. I waited for hours by a waterhole on the pan's edge — a known lion ambush site — watching animals come, drink, and leave.

Then, through the haze, they appeared. Two giraffes had travelled over 50 kilometres across barren ground. One drank while the other stood guard, then they switched. In a moment of perfect, silent unison, they rose together — vigilant, bonded, surviving.

On acrylic, their presence deepens. Face-mounted on a 2mm crystal-glossy acrylic, the image sits within the surface — not behind glass — bringing every detail of the vast landscape and its quiet vigilance to life.
