In Memory of Craig, 1972–2026
Craig, the legendary Super Tusker of Amboseli, passed away peacefully on January 3rd, 2026, at the age of 54. One of the last elephants carrying tusks over 45 kg each, his ground-sweeping ivory and calm presence made him one of the most recognised elephants in Africa.
His long life was a testament to conservation — decades of protection by the Kenya Wildlife Service, supported by partners and communities, allowed him to roam freely into old age.
This black and white portrait captures the gravity, patience, and authority that defined him. Now, following his natural passing, the image stands as a quiet tribute to a conservation success story and a genetic legacy that lives on through the many calves he fathered.
On Hahnemühle Photo Rag® — premium 310 gsm cotton paper — every detail holds: the weight of his tusks, the texture of his skin, the presence of a legend.
