Into the Wild — Elephant Ridge | Etosha, Namibia

Close your eyes. Now open them. You are here.

There are moments in wildlife photography when patience, persistence, and a little bit of luck come together to create something unforgettable.

"Elephant Ridge" was born from one of those moments.

For almost a week, I searched the vast landscapes of Etosha National Park, Namibia, hoping to find a particular herd of more than thirty elephants. Day after day passed without success, and as my self-drive photographic safari approached its final hours, I began to wonder if the moment would ever come.

Then, in the distance, I saw them.

The herd had gathered at a waterhole on a small plateau. I arrived just too late to capture them drinking, but as the elephants began moving away, my disappointment quickly turned into excitement. They were heading in my direction, and I realised there was still a chance to create something special.

I positioned my vehicle alongside the ridge and waited. As the elephants walked through the dust and sand, they slowly formed a perfect line along the spine of the landscape. For a brief moment, everything aligned — the elephants, the light, the dust, and the vast wilderness of Etosha.

I pressed the shutter.

Seconds later, the formation disappeared, but the image remained. "Elephant Ridge" captures not only the beauty of these magnificent animals, but also the patience and anticipation that define every true wildlife encounter.

This black-and-white fine art print is a tribute to the timeless spirit of Africa, a reminder of the quiet power, strength, and grace of the elephant.

Bring the majesty of Etosha into your home with an archival fine art print, available as an archival Hahnemühle loose print, acrylic glass print with a slimline aluminium frame in gold, silver, black, or white, or a canvas print stretched on solid wood with optional floating frames in black oak, brown elder, natural, or white maple.

Collector Stories

Reflections from collectors who have welcomed Peter Delaney's artwork into their homes around the world.

"

After some delay, I finally had 'Bonds of Love' framed and placed on my bedroom wall, a gift from my husband for our 50th wedding anniversary. He passed away not long after, and two years on, this photograph continues to comfort me. It is the first thing I see every morning, and it gladdens my heart.

— Sally, Johannesburg

This is not a photograph hanging on a wall. It is a window into something vast and unhurried.

Queen of the Mara has occupied a central place in our living room since 2020. It helped us feel connected to the world at a time when we... weren't.
