I waited for hours by a waterhole on the pan’s edge—a known lion ambush site, littered with sun-bleached bones—watching animals come, drink, and leave.
Then, through the haze, they appeared. Two giraffes have travelled over 50 kilometres across barren ground. They approached with extreme caution. One drank while the other stood guard, then they switched. In a moment of perfect, silent unison, they rose together—vigilant, bonded, surviving.
