Choje Among the Giants — Into the Wild | The Story

The San people called it Choje, the Tree of Life. For generations, these remarkable trees provided shade, shelter, and the wood from which arrow quivers were crafted. In a harsh land, they became symbols of endurance.

This image was made at Giant's Playground in Namibia, a landscape of immense dolerite boulders scattered across the desert as though giants themselves had cast them from the sky. Amid the stone stands a solitary giant quiver tree. Weathered. Resilient. Unmoved by time.

What first drew me to the scene was the sculptural form of the tree, the fractured geometry of the rocks, and the quiet conversation between them.

Places like this remind us how small we are. The stones will outlast us. The desert will outlast us.

Yet somehow, Choje continues to grow among the giants.

Collector Stories

Reflections from collectors who have welcomed Peter Delaney's artwork into their homes around the world.

"

After some delay, I finally had 'Bonds of Love' framed and placed on my bedroom wall, a gift from my husband for our 50th wedding anniversary. He passed away not long after, and two years on, this photograph continues to comfort me. It is the first thing I see every morning, and it gladdens my heart.

— Sally, Johannesburg

This is not a photograph hanging on a wall. It is a window into something vast and unhurried.

Queen of the Mara has occupied a central place in our living room since 2020. It helped us feel connected to the world at a time when we... weren't.
