Weathering the Tempest — Into the Wild | The Story

Some moments in the wild feel like they're holding their breath.

This was captured in the Masai Mara beneath a sky that seemed to be gathering its strength, heavy storm clouds rolling across the savannah like something ancient and alive. A lion and lioness lay together in the grass, framed by a lone tree standing against the vastness of the plains.

There had been a brief moment of intimacy between them, but what followed was something quieter, deeper. The lion remained alert, gaze fixed beyond the frame, as if reading the land. The lioness rested, yet looked directly toward the camera with a calm intensity that felt almost confrontational in its honesty.

Together, they embodied contrast and unity at once: presence and rest, tension and calm, instinct and connection. The wide perspective places them within the scale of the Mara itself, not just as subjects, but as part of a larger, living system shaped by weather, time, and survival.

In black and white, the scene becomes stripped back to essence. Light, shadow, form, emotion.

A reminder that even in stillness, the wild is never truly at rest.

Collector Stories

Reflections from collectors who have welcomed Peter Delaney's artwork into their homes around the world.

"

After some delay, I finally had 'Bonds of Love' framed and placed on my bedroom wall, a gift from my husband for our 50th wedding anniversary. He passed away not long after, and two years on, this photograph continues to comfort me. It is the first thing I see every morning, and it gladdens my heart.

— Sally, Johannesburg

This is not a photograph hanging on a wall. It is a window into something vast and unhurried.

Queen of the Mara has occupied a central place in our living room since 2020. It helped us feel connected to the world at a time when we... weren't.
