Black Death — Into the Wild | The Story

There are moments in the wild that make the air feel heavier. This was one of them.

Captured during a November safari in Kenya, this was no ordinary buffalo sighting. Ahead of us stretched an immense herd, hundreds of African buffalo moving as one beneath dark, storm-filled skies. Then they turned, and began walking directly toward us.

At the centre stood a colossal old bull, his immense horns curving outward like an infinity symbol, carrying the kind of presence that stops conversation instantly. Calm, powerful, and utterly commanding.

Buffalo are among Africa's most unpredictable animals. Powerful, intelligent, and deeply aware, they rarely offer moments like this. Photographing them head-on, with an entire herd advancing in unison, is something you cannot plan for. You simply have to be ready.

For a brief moment, everything aligned: the storm clouds overhead, the movement of the herd, the symmetry of the scene, and the raw tension that only wild Africa can deliver.

In black and white, this becomes something timeless. A portrait not only of power, but of resilience, unity, and the untamed spirit of the wilderness.

Collector Stories

Reflections from collectors who have welcomed Peter Delaney's artwork into their homes around the world.

"

After some delay, I finally had 'Bonds of Love' framed and placed on my bedroom wall, a gift from my husband for our 50th wedding anniversary. He passed away not long after, and two years on, this photograph continues to comfort me. It is the first thing I see every morning, and it gladdens my heart.

This is not a photograph hanging on a wall. It is a window into something vast and unhurried.

Queen of the Mara has occupied a central place in our living room since 2020. It helped us feel connected to the world at a time when we... weren't.
