Dune on Fire | Sossusvlei | Canvas Prints | Wall Art
Sometimes photography is about being in the right place at the right time. I call this "opportunistic photography". This was one of those situations. A wind/sand storm was blowing. I stopped the car about 1km in front of Dune 45. I took out my longest lens ,600mm. This gave me a wonderful perspective of the Dune. The dune seemed as it was on fire, as the red Namib sand was whipped into a frenzy. I could only get a handful of photos as the sand was stinging my arms and face. But I was satisfied I had captured that wonderful moment. Later on I returned after the winds had subsided and the dune was cleansed and unblemished. I made a wonderful monochrome photograph called Dune45, light and shadow. It indeed turned out to be a serendipitous afternoon.

"With tree skeletons, hundreds of years old, lost in the middle of the desert, it’s little wonder Deadvlei has been nominated as the 8th Wonder of the World"
Kubu Island | Baobab | Canvas Prints | Wall Art
Kubu is a mystical island that rises out of an ocean-less salt pan. It is a harsh arid environment and one would not expect to see an island of rocks covered in ancient gnarled baobab tress. These Baobabs are thousands of years old and their eerily mis shaped bodies causes ones inner most imagination to run amok.
